Action Schools! BC
Action Schools! BC is a best practices model designed to assist schools in creating individualized action plans to promote healthy living. The initiative coordinates action by all members of the school community to increase physical activity opportunities throughout the school day - enhancing physical education, activating classrooms, and promoting healthy choices before and after school, and during lunch and recess.
Active Healthy Kids
Active Healthy Kids Canada was established to advocate the importance of quality, accessible, and enjoyable physical activity participation experiences for children and youth. As a national leader in this area, Active Healthy Kids Canada provides expertise and direction in order to increase the attention given to, investment in, and effective implementation of physical activity opportunities for all Canadian children and youth.
BC Healthy Communities
BC Healthy Communities (BCHC) is a new initiative that aims to increase the capacity of communities in British Columbia to create more supportive environments and address issues leading to the improved health of their citizens. BCHC promotes and supports a "big picture" approach to fostering human development and well-being in our communities.
BCRPA Fitness Registration Program
Over 3,000 registered fitness leaders throughout the province play an active role in promoting the wellness of British Columbians by increasing awareness of the benefits of physical activity via group fitness, aquatic fitness, yoga fitness, weight training and personal training. Canada's Healthy Living Guide
Canada's Healthy Living Guide is a combination of important points which promotes the benefits of eating well and being active and helps people make wise choices everyday.
City of Penticton Recreation Guide
The City of Penticton Recreation Guide is also available for viewing or download and provides you with all information available on leisure-time activities for people of all ages, interests, and skill levels.
Everybody gets to play™
This program is focused on ensuring that economically disadvantaged children and families have access to quality leisure experiences. The Tool Kit provides ideas on how to make recreation services more inclusive and a BC supplement has been created. Workshops are now available to help mobilize communities for action. From the Ground Up: An Organizing Handbook for Healthy Communities
A handbook to assist individuals and organizations who are organizing to make a difference in their communities using a healthy communities process. It includes a discussion of the six steps involved in developing a coalition to create community change.
Health Care Professional Referral Strategy
This strategy will provide doctors and other health care professionals with tools to advise people on how and where to become more active. This program is being piloted in the spring / summer of 2006.

Hearts in Motion Walking Clubs
Hearts in Motion is a Heart and Stroke Foundation program designed to encourage people to participate in regular physical activity by walking. Learn more about this program or find a walking club in your area.
HIGH FIVE

Increasing Physical Activity Through Community Design
The Increasing Physical Activity guide is designed as an introduction to increasing physical activity through better community design, specifically by making it easier and safer to bicycle and walk. It presents an introduction to community design issues, and describes seven kinds of projects that can help create more bicycle-friendly and walkable communities. This was produced by the National Centre for Bicycling and Walking in the United States.
KidSport™ Fund
KidSport™ is the charitable arm of Sport BC that raises money for underprivileged children who cannot afford sport registration fees. Learn more about KidSport™ and how you can start a KidSport™ Chapter in your community.
On the Move – CAAWS
On the Move is a national initiative designed to increase opportunities for inactive girls and young women (ages 9-18) to participate and lead in sport and physical activity.
Spirit of BC Community Committees
The Spirit of BC Community Committees provide communities with an influential and local point-of-contact between the community, the Province of British Columbia and 2010 Legacies Now.
Sprockids
The Canadian Cycling Association's Sprockids National Introduction to Cycling Program offers young people the opportunity to develop the skills, values and strategies that will guide them throughout their lives and enable them to reach their full potential.
Trail Considerations for Engaging Girls and Women
The Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) recently developed this document to assist communities with effective trail development. Consult this document to assist with your own trail planning and development.
True Sport
True Sport is a national movement committed to the belief that sport makes a powerful and positive contribution to the development of people and communities. In exploring a deeper connection between sport, community and values, True Sport has emerged as the common denominator amongst the three. The True Sport Movement will continue to emphasize the key role that sport can play in the development of a strong and connected Canada.
Way to Go! School Program
The Way to Go! School Program is a RoadSense project that fosters safer, healthier travel alternatives for elementary and middle school students.
