What is GetActive! Penticton?
GetActive! Penticton is a community initiative led by the City of Penticton Recreation Department and supported by several community organizations. GetActive! Penticton is one of 158 registered British Columbia Active Communities and part of a much larger wellness initiative called ActNow BC which is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle choices and environments.
Goal: To create a healthier community in which physical activity is valued and everyone participates daily.
Target: To increase physical activity levels 20% by 2010 through a community based approach.
Who is behind GetActive! Penticton?
A task force of community champions from the following organizations came together in 2006 to develop a 4-Year Plan for this initiative and have been working together in an advisory capacity since then:
- City of Penticton Recreation Department
- School District #67
- Interior Health
- Penticton Indian Band
- Canadian Mental Health Association
- Seniors Advisory Committee
- City Centre Fitness Premier Martial Arts
- South Okanagan Health Fair Committee
- Edis Computers
plus over 50 community businesses/organizations has supported this initiative through promotion, small sponsorship and involvement in activities & projects.
