GetActive! Penticton Active Communities Initiative is part of a much larger wellness initiative, called ActNowBC, which is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle choices and environments. The Initiative is delivered by BC Recreation and Parks Association with funding from the Provincial Government through ActNowBC and in partnership with 2010LegaciesNow.

2010LegaciesNow and ActNowBC has recognized the forthcoming 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as a unique opportunity for individuals, government, communities and the private sector to strengthen their commitment to promote healthy living. “By working together, we can help make British Columbia the healthiest jurisdiction to ever host an Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games”.

Community leaders in Penticton came together in the winter of 2006 to develop a strategy to create a healthier Penticton and get our community more active. The group created the Goal, Target and Objectives of the initiative and completed a 4-Year Action Plan to increase physical activity levels in Penticton.
